Banned Book Project Reflection
My Book:
- How challenging was this project for you? Be specific.
- This project was more challenging for me than I had originally thought, mostly because I picked a book that was a bit larger than I thought. I was reading Lord of the Flies, and all though the book wasn’t actually that big, it was more than I was expecting, and so I had to read a bit more per week than I had imagined. Other than that, I had a pretty easy time with the dialectical journals, and really enjoyed making the video.
- What was the easiest part of this project?
- The easiest part of this project for me was the video. It was easy for me just because I like making videos, and I make them all the time so I didn’t have to learn anything new to start making the video. There was nothing to advanced going on in the video, just a voice over with some cartoon pictures of the book, which cut down the time it took me to make sense I didn’t need any a-roll, and I had found the b-roll elsewhere. The video would have been harder if I had used my face, because I would have to set up my camera and my lights, but I think it turned out fine, if not just as good as it would have been with the camera.
- How comfortable did you feel while making your film?
- I felt very comfortable when making my film, mostly because I didn’t use my face in my film, and didn’t really want to. I just used my voice, which I was totally fine using, and got footage else where, so I feel pretty comfortable about it. I did have to do a few retakes of the voice over until I got it right, but eventually I did after 4 or 5 attempts. All in all I thought it turned out pretty good and I am happy with the final product
- Did you receive critique and feedback from anyone (teacher, parent, classmate, etc)? If so, who? Was the feedback helpful? (This could be for any part of the project, journal, or video)
- I received critique from Sam on some of my dialectical journals which really helped me out, and allowed me to change some things and make them even better. I also recived some critique on the video, and I fixed some issues with the voice over and made sure to give credit to where I got my footage. That was mainly all of the critique I got, but all of it was helpful and allowed me to get an even better final product for this project.
- Did you provide kind, specific, and helpful feedback in the journal workshops? Were these sessions helpful and/or fun?
- I think that I provided kind, specific, and helpful feedback when I critiqued my peers. I gave Sam critique on his dialectical journal, as he did mine. We both gave each other helpful feedback and made each others final products better. The sessions were kind of fun, just because it gave us a chance to read other peoples work and see how it relates to ours, and gives us another perspective.
- Did you actually read the book you chose?
- I did read most of the book, there were some nights where I didn’t have time to read, but most nights I read and added to my dialectical journal.
- What grade do you think you deserve? Why?
- I think I deserve an A for this project because I tried my best the whole time, and did the task at hand. I followed the instructions for the project and made sure everything was the way I wanted it to be. I also think I did a good job on the video and it turned out pretty well. The dialectical journals were good, but I think I could have changed a few things to improve them.
- If you could change something about this project, what would it be?
- I would change “video” part to something more open ended, like maybe a news article or something else like that to give us more options. I was perfectly fine with the video option, but Im sure some people may have wanted more options for that.
