Lanterns of Love Reflection

1) I think that our group worked fairly well together. We all had a role in the group and got everything done as a machine. I did most of the computer stuff (illustrator files, emails, etc.), where as the other two members of the group did the building and hands on work. Throughout all of the projects, the most important trait to have is grit. I think that that is the skill that I have experienced the most with my time here at the high school so far
2) I learned a lot in Humanities throughout this project. We had too interview a whole bunch of different people, 3rd graders, an adult couple, and Senior Citizens. I think that all of the interviews that we did helped improve our social skills when put to real like situations. We also read Romeo and Juliet, which even though I had read before, was different this time. We thought about it in an analytical way and it changed my perspective on the book. Lastly, we did Anthropology lessons as well, and I learned a lot from those. During our Socratic seminar, we talked a lot about society's standards of beauty, and the role that social media played.
3) In physics, I learned about something I knew nothing about, and hadn't ever learned before. We learned about electricity and circuitry, two things I had a minimal understanding of going into this. We learned about parallel and series circuits, and the role they play. In a series circuit, when one light goes out, so do all the other ones, but in a parallel circuit, if one light goes out, it's only the one light instead of them all. At the end of the project, we had to build a circuit to put into the lanterns that we made, and my group decided to go for the challenge option, which was adding a motor. We had to scrap that idea because it ended up taking to much time, but I learned a lot about how circuits worked from this experience.
4) At the beginning of the project, I hadn't realized how many types of engineering their actually is. Theres Aerospace, civil, automotive, biomedical, electrical, chemical, and agricultural just to name a few.
I also learned more about circuits in engineering, and how to wire the circuits correctly. I think that throughout the project we really had to have an engineers mind set to do what we needed to do. Engineers design, plan, and build whatever it is they're working on, and thats exactly what we did in this project.
5) I think that exhibition wen't really well and I was proud of our overall product. I worked well with my group, and I think that we all learned a lot from the project. I believe that I had a lot to offer to the group, and was a valuable asset. I had a strong work ethic and was hardly ever off task. I think that I collaborated well with my group and we worked as a well oiled machine. Our communication could have been better at times, but it was still pretty good. For our adult interview, none of us could really do it at the same time sense we all had different schedules, but we eventually squeezed it in and it was still before the deadline. My overall content knowledge was also good because after working hands on with the lanterns, and interviewing all of the age groups, I think that my understanding of Love, and the project, has grown.
